Plastic surgery should be safe.

Making the decision to have elective or plastic surgery can be fun and exciting. However, to be quite frank with you, it can also be downright scary and mentally exhausting. From beginning to end, you will experience a vast array of emotions. Everyone who considers plastic surgery of any kind will have doubts and ‘what if’ questions. So before you go under the knife, let me help ease your nerves by sharing with with you the Top 5 Plastic Surgery Mistakes made by patients.

1. Failure to Check Credentials
Research and make sure your plastic surgeon is Board certified with the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Plastic surgeons should have 4 years of medical school, followed by 6 years of residency plastic surgery training.

2. Failure to Consult with An Experienced Plastic Surgeon
Choose a surgeon who is experienced in the procedure(s) you desire to have done. Rhinoplasty (nose job) and BBL (Brazilian Butt Lift) require two very different skill sets.

3. Not Researching a Plastic Surgeon’s Work
Checking reviews, as well as seeing before and after photos of the surgeon’s work, is one of the key components to having a successful surgery. All 21st Century plastic surgeons should have information and photographs readily available to show they are well trained and experienced in what they do. In a ideal situation, it would be great if you also have a personal referral.

4. Looking to Save Money — Two For $50!
As the saying goes ‘you get what you pay for.’ It is also true with plastic surgery. NEVER consider allowing someone to perform any kind of surgery on your body who is not operating inside of a medical facility that has all hospital privileges. If the price sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

5. Not Following Your Gut
If you have a ‘gut feeling’ that something is not right, don’t ignore it. As much as you may want to part with that gut clinging your body, be patient. Listen to your body!
